   n honors graduate of the Baylor College of Dentistry, Dr. Douglas Phillips completed a General Practice Residency in the U.S. Air Force in 1980. After two years of service, he established a private practice in Arkansas and relocated to Asheville in 1998. Throughout his years in practice, Dr. Phillips has continually broadened his skills in esthetic, restorative and implant dentistry through completion of advanced courses to stay on the cutting edge of dental developments.
Having completed all Mastery Level courses at the Seattle Institute for Advanced Dental Education, Frank Spear, DDS MSD, founder and director of the Institute, appointed Dr. Phillips to its teaching staff. This facility is among the dental profession’s best known training center for the post-graduate in skills advancement in restorative dentistry. In addition to his full-time practice in Asheville, Dr. Phillips serves as a Mentor at the Institute for various courses, a role that less than 300 dentists worldwide have been appointed to serve.
Additionally, Dr. Phillips has completed extensive training in implant dentistry at the prestigious Misch Implant Institute and is a Fellow of the International Congress of Oral Implantology. He is also a member of the American Academy of Fixed Prosthodontics, American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry, Spear Faculty Study Club, Seattle Study Club, L. D. Pankey Alumni Association, American Dental Association, North Carolina Dental Association, French Broad Pankey Study Club, and the Buncombe County Dental Society. Another high honor Dr. Phillips holds is as an appointed Mentor of the Pankey Institute, an exclusive organization that fosters progression in dental care.

 Dr. Donald Schmitt is a Board Certified Prosthodontist practicing in Asheville.
After graduation from Loma Linda University School of Dentistry, Dr. Schmitt continued his training in the specialty of Prosthodontics at Indiana University School of Dentistry. There, he was a recipient of the I. Lester Furnas Award for Academic, Technical & Clinical Proficiency in Prosthodontics and the John F. Johnston Scholarship Award for Excellence in Clinical Prosthodontics. While at Indiana University he also worked as a clinical instructor in Prosthodontics for three years.
After receiving a specialty certificate in Prosthodontics at Indiana University School of Dentistry, Dr. Schmitt went on to serve for four years in Anchorage, Alaska with the U. S. Air Force. While in the Air Force, he was Chief of Prosthodontics at Elmendorf Air Force Base and provided prosthodontic dentistry for active duty members in treatment including Dental Implants, Fixed and Removable Prosthodontics, Maxillofacial Prosthodontics and Forensic Identification. In 2008, Dr. Schmitt completed a Masters degree in Prosthodontics and finished the certification process of the American Board of Prosthodontics, a four-part examination process which he began in 2004.
While in Alaska, Dr. Schmitt also worked in private practice from 2007 until relocating to Asheville in 2008, when he joined with Dr. Douglas Phillips. He is a Diplomate of the American Board of Prosthodontics, a Fellow of the American College of Prosthodontists, and member of the American Dental Association, North Carolina Dental Society, Buncombe County Dental Society, and the John F. Johnston Society. He is licensed in California, Indiana, and North Carolina.

A graduate of the Dental Assisting program at Asheville-Buncombe Technical Institute, Shirley has worked in the dental field for over 25 years, and has been with Dr. Phillips since he began his practice in Asheville in 1998. She enjoys spending free time with her husband and adult son playing the challenging game of golf.

An Asheville native, Maria has worked with Dr. Phillips since 2002. She graduated from UNC-Asheville with BS in Business Management-Administration. She and her husband have two children. When not in the office, she enjoys family time, the outdoors, sports, and cooking shows (“because I’m not a great cook!”).

A graduate of the Dental Hygiene program at Asheville-Buncombe Technical Institute, Linda is a familiar face to most of Dr. Phillips’ patients, having been with the practice since 1999. When not cleaning and brightening smiles, Linda enjoys cooking, tennis, golf and laughing with her son.

After graduating from Asheville-Buncombe Technical Institute as a Registered Dental Hygienist in 2004, Ann joined Dr. Phillips’ practice. She and her husband have four young children and enjoy spending time participating in family activities at church and exploring the region through its many hiking trails.
